Forest Bathing for Wellbeing
A hands-on online course, guiding you to explore your local nature through engaging weekly activities, and share with an online community.
Connect with nature, find your peace in a busy world, and support your health.
This course might be for you if you want to:
improve your health and wellbeing naturally, through simple enchanting activities in nature.
experience Forest Bathing locally, without travelling a long way to your nearest guide.
feel more aware of the beauty of nature in your everyday life.
feel you belong in your local nature, and on the land where you live and work.
break through the busy ‘doing’, and practise ‘being’.
rekindle your childhood ease in nature (or discover it, if you never had that chance).
learn to pause your habitual thinking, to feel calm, clear, and present.
…and want to learn it:
through experience, by diving in and doing it from day one.
in a rounded way, through practice, reflection, poetry, language and science.
by discovering ways to make this a regular part of your daily life.
in the company of like-minded people, who understand that this is more than going for a walk.
What is Forest Bathing?
It’s easy, it’s free, it’s remarkably good for us, and it’s fun!
When we connect with nature, something magical happens to us, which is beyond the health benefits of going for a walk.
By relating through our senses (sight, hearing, touch, and smell), we drop our habit of endless thinking, and sink into Forest Mind - absorbed, calm and relaxed. We feel present and more alive.
This way of being has been shown to be highly beneficial for our health and wellbeing, and even 20 minutes is known to have a lasting effect.
Online, hands-on, and in community
Forest Bathing is a state of mind - calm, clear, and curious. We can only learn that through experience. So on the course, we jump into the practice from day one, together.
no forest required - you’ll get to know your local nature in fresh and fascinating ways.
no timetable to fit into - you’re offered a new activity each week to practise in your own time.
one hour a week is all you need to make progress and start to notice positive change.
no experience needed - suited to any level, from beginners to qualified Forest Bathing guides.
no equipment needed - simply bring your eyes, ears, nose, hands, and curiosity!
in community - you’re supported by Jan your course guide, and your fellow students.
“Instructions for living a life.

Hi, I’m Jan. I began working in Nature Connection in the 1980s, taking city children into the woods to meet and become comfortable in the natural world. I fell in love with this work, as it brings together my care for people’s health, nature and our astoundingly beautiful planet.
During Covid, I combined my training and experience in healthcare, teaching, and Nature Connection, in creating this practical online course, to support people isolated in their homes.
My vision is that everyone will have the opportunity to develop a direct personal relationship with their local nature, for the sake of their own health, the future of society, and the natural world. When we connect with nature we fall in love, and what we love, we protect.
I live in the UK, and when I’m not working as a physical therapist or nature guide, I’m often to be found in my vegetable garden, walking, cooking world food or making willow baskets.
Physiotherapist, Bowen therapist and tutor, International Forest Therapy Guide.

Once we start to look around with a Forest Bathing mindset, we realise nature is everywhere. The course walks you through a series of fun activities to unearth this fresh way of noticing what is around us in our daily lives. By practising these activities in your own neighbourhood, you will come to see it in delightful new ways. Before you know it you’ll be madly in love with this wonderful new feeling, and amazed that you missed out on it for so long!

The course was created during Covid Lockdown, so most activities offer a variation for people who cannot leave their home. Many of the wellbeing benefits of Forest Bathing come from the state of mind we sink into when we engage with these activities — calm, relaxed and alert. If we are ill, tired or too busy to go the park, the activities can be practised while sitting at a window, offering many of the same benefits for our physical and mental health as if we were in a natural space.

Students who participate in the full course will receive a certificate of attendance. Students who successfully complete the Professional Development Course will also receive an official certificate for 30 Professional Learning Credits through the CPD Certification Service.
